Continuous filaments vs. staple design?

@Trinolho hat folgende Arbeitsthese:

  • Zitat

Eher was in Richtung 20D

    • 10D plain - Very popular fabric, with 22 g/m2 is very lightweight and available in many colors!  (M/reg weighs 34g)

    • 20D Ripstop - Fabric weight 39 g/m2 still pretty lightweight (M/reg weighs 59g) but more durable. Also not translucent and not as shiny as plain 10D fabric. Available in black and steel grey color.

      (M/reg weighs 55g)

    • 7x4D Ripstop - Extremely lightweight - 18 g/m2 but with tear strength comparable to plain 10D. Lightest possible weight for wind pants. Available only in grey color (M/reg weighs 30g)

    • 10D Ripstop - Very lightweight fabric at 26 g/m2 - more durable than plain 10D fabric so overall it's a good balance between weight and durability. Fabric also uses plant based EcoElite™ dwr! (M/reg weighs 40g).

    • 6D 3 layer WPB laminate - This fabric is not only wind proof but it is also highly waterproof with hydrostatic head of 20.000mm. Breathability is also very good (50.000g JIS L1099 B1 method) and suitable for highly aerobic activities. Fabric weight is 51 g/m2. While the fabric itself is waterproof the seams are not. They can be sealed by the user with Silnet or Seamgrip (M/reg pants weigh 73g)

    • 20D Ripstop soft - Fabric weight 38 g/m2. The most breathable fabric choice and it also looks most casual as it is not shiny, not translucent.

  • 10D - 0.65oz per yard²

With an amazing balance of durability, breathability, and weight, 10D has become our go-to nylon for many of the products we build. This option is comfortable against skin, but also makes a great exterior fabric. 10D is a great choice for a variety of applications.

  • 20D - 1.10oz per yard²

This micro ripstop nylon offers a higher durability and water resistance than the other fabric options, but with a bit of a weight penalty. It's also less breathable than the lighter options. Keep in mind that durability should be understood in terms of ultralight materials. It's a heavier material, but you will still have to take care of your equipment. Our 20D material is a good choice for high abrasion uses if you understand the sacrifice in weight and breathability.

  • 7D - 0.50oz per yard²

7D nylon is our lightest option yet. For those wanting to cut every gram possible we offer 7D fabric that can be used anywhere our 10D is an option. Benefits include increased breathability and decreased weight. However, this material is slightly less downproof and less durable. Through our own testing process, we’ve seen slight down loss, but no decrease in performance. We’ve been very surprised at how durable this fabric actually is. That being said, please take extra caution with this option and understand you are selecting the lightest available.

Windproofness

Cubic Feet per Minute, or CFM, is a fabric windproofness measurement. For example, a typical rain jacket would be about 0.5cfm, Windpro fleece would be 60cfm, and a typical fleece would be around 200cfm.

Our 20D is around 1cfm, which is considered nearly windproof. 10D is around 10cfm, so it's highly wind-resistant. 7D is around 35cfm.

Water resistance

All three fabrics we offer have a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment. This is not the same as waterproof, but it helps the fabric shed water and dry faster when wet.

Other fabrics

We use 1.15oz per yard² waterproof 15D silnylon

The air permeability of fabrics is measured at a given air speed and pressure (Frazier type test, ASTM D737) with the data typically reported as CFM (cubic feet of air passing through a square foot of fabric per minute). A value ≤1 is windproof, 3-10 is very wind resistant, and 10-20 is wind resistant. Argon 67 and 90 (outer shell of Hammock Gear and Loco Libre underquilts) rate at 48.9 and 40.1 CFM, respectively. Pertrex Quantum rates at ca. 3-5 CFM while Airtastic is as low as 0.18 CFM (i.e. 0.09 cm3/cm2/sec); windproof!

Argon 90, whichis a 15d fabric that has a little more durability than lower denier shell fabrics and has been tested to have 40 CFM breathability

....

Argon 90 is one of the more breathable shell materials, allowing you to be active in it. At high intensity activity a more breathable layer is desirable, but at moderate activity in cooler weather, a layer like this can provide great warmth with good breathability

1.0 oz Hyper D (uncalendared), which is a 20d fabric that has more breathability than the Argon Wind Shell

...

The Argon 90 wind shell layers provide a good balance of breathability to windproofness (40cfm) that is suited to lower levels of activity with great wind protection. HyperD is a large jump up in breathability that is much better suited to higher levels of activity while still maintaining good protection from wind. At 20mph you will start to feel some wind cutting through a bit, but it still stops a lot of it. While I don’t know the actual cfm rating of this fabric I would estimate it somewhere around double that of Argon 90 and it is much more comfortable when putting out a higher effort.

Cubic feet per square meter is a measurement of how much air breathability and air resistance a fabric has. A higher CFM is more breathable, but less wind resistant and a lower CFM is less breathable and more air resistant. For example, a fleece typically has a very high CFM (200+), but usually does not block the wind. Similarly a windbreaker has a low CFM (3-5), but can feel like wearing a garbage bag under high exertion.
