Da mich eine Meldung zu diesem Beitrag erreicht hat, will ich mal antworten, um das Ganze ein bißchen zu erklären ...

Der Link von zomarzi führt auf die Seite von Jim Wood (Stichwort "Cat stove"), und das ist kein Phishing-Link oder sowas.

Der Tyvek-Windschutz ist eine gute Idee. Ich denke da schon den ganzen Tag drüber nach, und frage mich, warum ich das noch nicht ausprobiert habe!

Evtl. kann man das so nähen, dass es als Teil des Bivys abnehmbar ist, so dass man das Stück Stoff noch nicht mal doppelt mit herumschleppt.

Also, ich finde den Link lesenswert!

OT: Ich schreibe gerade PNs mit zomarzi hin und her (er versteht kein Deutsch).

Somehow seems to me like the idea of a tyvek windscreen only takes care of half of what a windscreen is supposed to do. I would always want a windscreen to also reflect back some heat, reducing cooking times. Now that will of course all depend on stoves, but with most of them I can put an aluminium screen pretty close and make sure the heat gets to the side of my pot.

Or am I missing something?

Richtig, that's true.

Jim Wood himself names that as disadvantage.

I think the tyvek screen would be a a good choice for wood stoves, which require a relatively large (and thus, heavy) screen and for which fuel efficiency is not that much a critical issue. And also, you're collecting wood, anyways. You just need to pick up a few more twigs for the screen.

If you still want heat reflection, you could add a bit of aluminium foil to the setup. The tyvek screen holds off winds and gives the whole thing stability. The aluminium safely (safe from being blown away) sits inside the screen for reflection.

Or you could choose one of those aluminium coated fabrics instead of tyvek.

But I guess the relatively large distance between stove and screen will reduce the effect to virtually nothing. So yes, the disadvantage is an argument, at least for alcohol stoves.

Wenn ich unseren Slogan mal so wörtlich nehme, dürfen wir hier eigentlich nicht weiter auf Englisch schreiben.

Ich habe generell nicht viel übrig für political correctness. Aber gerade im Moment stößt mir der Spruch echt sauer auf, auch wenn es z.B. für französisch oder englisch bereits andere Forengemeinschaften geben mag, und die Abgrenzung als Existenzberechtigung irgendwie sinnvoll ist (sonst könnten wir ja auch alle zu BPL umziehen, zumindest alle, die englisch können). Aber es ein ziemlich bewusst ausgrenzender Spruch. Naja. Ich krieg' das wohl gerade in den falschen Hals hier ^^

Hello to everyone, please excuse me as I do not speak German I do understand that it may be a little frustrating for all German members I do apologise.

I only discovered the Kitescreen this weekend and I thought it was a simple idea that required little energy to set up. I personally will try both the normal aluminium windscreen combined with a Kitescreen as to me you have the best of both worlds, quicker boil time using less fuel and with very little if no weight penalty.

I'm glad to see members discussing as obviously this is how we make a good idea better or to leave it alone if it cannot be bettered.
