    Europe shops

Thank you biker2hiker and khyal. I know about sackundpack but the 16.5 euro shipping for under 200 euro orders make it not such good choice.
  2. Hello everyone. I am hiker from south Europe, and i am looking to find good shops with outdoor gear. Specifically UL equipment and clothing, more traditional camping stuff, even military surplus types of stores. Which ones do you use? Leave the UK ones out, because Brexit makes them uncompetitive, plus i know most of them. I have found that some greats shops exist at central europe (poland, czechia, slovakia) helped by lower VAT rates. But they are small and hard to find. A big bonus would be reasonable shipping charges to south Europe. Thanks a lot.

I need to have estimate of items and weight before i can tell you the costs. Thanks
  11. Very Nice.UL i think is a relatively cheap sport, but has a high start-up price barrier. This could help people access costs and make better decisions.
  12. I agree for new members ,a year sub might be ok.Gives you a lot to read. But the site has gone downhill. For the European hiker, not much worth it. Reddit Ultralight seems to be the more upcoming community now.
  13. Perhaps it is just a belief i am unwilling to let go.But i still think you are stupid not to take a good knife when hiking. You just dont know what you will need to do.Scissors and mini blades dont do it for me.
  14. Dont be a coward.Leave the trail and go somewhere you do not expect.See what is out there.

Ahem,i take the subject seriously so yeah i will try to make things interesting. As for myself, well i do not like to talk about myself,i have some privacy reasons. After all,i go outdoors so i do not have to explain myself, and not get bogged down with politics and social norms, and communication rules etc. I can tell you this about myself: I hate political correctness and people who need to be taught what to think and what to do. If i trusted people i would go live in a big city, haha Peace out
  16. The only interesting part for me is the fat metabolism change. How the body switches operations when your diet changes significantly. The rest could have easily happened by losing weight and a vacation to a beach!
  17. Why hike? There are so many good reasons, that it will would much more wise and time saving to just ask WHY NOT HIKE??
  18. UL is not new. People have been trying to lighten up weight for many years. But the marketing has reached larger audiences, and greater scope of equipment thanks to technology and better understanding. It is just that modern backpacking is quite different from Old-school-Scout-be-prepared-for-everything backpacking. And it gets labeled ULTRALIGHT to distance itself and sell newer gear from the old school. You can still go out in the wild, with a 2 kg backpack and overprepared just fine.It still is backpacking. It just wont be as fun as modern style.
  19. You can be a minimalist and still pay a lot of money! Think Cuben fiber,Titanium stakes, trowel, pots,Carbon fiber frames... If minimalism means having few and light items, then it CAN be compatible with spending and consumerism up to a point. If minimalism means spending as little as possible, using as few natural resources, and reject consumerism even if you have a good reason to buy an item, then it is more like making a statement, than trying to be more comfortable. The second sure is admirable but i suspect most of us and the people who think about minimalism are practicing the first. They might overlap a bit,and i think a good balance of both should be aimed at.I think to go full second you have to become a hermit, reject technology, not communicate with people, and forget about money, live of the land. That might be badass, but very few could stomach it.And you certainly wont see minimalism ads and coaches about that lifestyle! TRUE minimalism, haha.
  20. Personally i got a Toaks 0.9L from AliExpress because it was real cheap. In your case go for Evernew,it is the top quality.
  21. Assuming you do not have preset distance goals and arrival times.. I would say 30 km is a decent leisure distance, if you are carrying 10-15 kg.If you go over 40 km you will have a to speed up a bit, and spend less time on pauses. Over 45 km, you need to push hard if you are not uberlight.Over 50km you must see it as a race.
